Fix Up the Buildings, Attract New Business
Rockaway Beach: A Century of Community
Rockaway Beach on the north Oregon Coast has been a popular vacation spot since the early 1920s. Six generations of families have enjoyed this town and its expansive, seven-mile-long beach for more than a century.
A Weathered Main Street
The buildings on the town's main street (Highway 101) have housed many businesses, from grocery stores to restaurants, arcades to pharmacies. But with the dynamic ocean weather, these buildings were showing their age.
Investing in the Future
Rockaway Beach is fortunate to have a wide range of lodging properties—hotels, campgrounds, and short-term rentals. With the lodging tax they collect each year, the city decided to use the funds to improve the tourism-related buildings.
The Ultimate Goal: By investing in improvements, the town would attract new businesses and revitalize its downtown.
